Sidebar Layouts

Sidebar Layouts are specified in two locations. (1) Theme Options, (2) Pages and Posts. With regards to Theme Options, this allows you to set a default sidebar layout, either Left, Right, double, or Full globally.

Setting the Default Sidebar Location

Theme Options > Main to set the default sidebar layout
Theme Options > Main to set the default sidebar layout

To set the default location, go to Appearance > Theme Options > Main. There will be a section called “Default Sidebar Layout” with a series of graphics showing the sidebar locations. The default location marked here will apply to the “default sidebar” option for Pages, Post, 404 pages, search results, Archive,  and any other WordPress pages that are non-static pages/post.

Advanced: For Custom Post Types, or if you prefer a certain core page to use a different sidebar layout, you can apply a filter via your child theme.

Setting the Sidebar Layout on Pages and Posts (individually)

Each Page and Single Post can override the default sidebar layout setting specified above. This allows you to have complete control over the pages that matter the most. For example, you may want to set a default right sidebar globally, but for your home page you want it to be full-width.

Each Post and Page has an Options Meta Box that provides additional options. In this case, you will find a section called “Sidebar Layout” where you can override the default settings. Choosing “Default Sidebar” will use what is chosen in Theme Options.
